5). Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

In Rio, December 31st is lived under the heat and sun of summer. For the occasion, the beaches of Copacabana are flooded with cascades of lights that run down the facades of the great hotels. At midnight, it's the highlight: for 20 minutes, the sky is illuminated by a gigantic fireworks display.
